Luka Modric will have the final say regarding his future, but AC Milan hope that a Champions League fairytale could tempt him.

Modric signed a one-year deal when he arrived from Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer mercato, but with the option for an extra 12 months. At the time of his signing it was known that the Ballon d’Or winner would be the one to make a call on 2026-27, and he has been brilliant so far.

Milan growing in Modric belief

According to Antonio Vitiello – who published his weekly column for MilanNews – Milan’s stance is clear: they are ‘ready to keep Luka Modric for another season’. The club are ‘thrilled to have a champion like him on the team’, while Massimiliano Allegri is also enjoying having him around.

Vitiello confirms that it is true that the player will make a decision at the end of the season, meaning he will be ‘the one to give a definitive answer’ on whether he’ll stay with the Rossoneri next season, but there are some more positive signs emerging.

“Those who know Modric describe the player as truly happy with his experience in Milan, and there’s every reason to extend his contract, especially if the Rossoneri return to the Champions League,” the journalist adds.

“The idea of playing in Europe’s most prestigious tournament with AC Milan would be an added incentive to stay. We’ll just have to wait a few more weeks for a definitive response from the former Real Madrid midfielder.”
