The substitutes Niclas Füllkrug, Samuele Ricci and Christian Pulisic combined for what nearly resulted in a great goal for AC Milan against Cagliari last night.
In recent months, there have been many complaints about Milan’s options on the bench. Yesterday, however, Massimiliano Allegri had several good options by virtue of the fact that he had to field a somewhat makeshift eleven.
The manager made four substitutions in the end, bringing on Gabbia, Ricci, Pulisic and the new signing Füllkrug. In the 87th minute, as you can see in the video below, the last three players had a really nice moment and nearly doubled the lead for Milan.
Luka Modric found Füllkrug with a low pass, but just enough for the German to flick it forward with his head. Ricci then played it back to the striker with one touch, and the ball was passed to Pulisic on the left-hand side of the penalty box.
Elia Caprile made a good save to keep out the effort, which was decent but perhaps could have been a tad better, as Pulisic lost some angle after the first touch. In any case, it was really nice to see the substitutes combining, and especially the early indications from Füllkrug.
