There was a time when it felt like Mike Maignan was going to save every penalty he faced, but now the opposite is true.
With all of the reports swirling regarding his future at Milan given his expiring deal, his penalty-stopping abilities have vanished into thin air. In fact, it has been over a year since the Frenchman last saved a spot kick for Milan, from Moise Kean in the Fiorentina away game last season.
Having signed for Milan in the 2021 summer window, Maignan saved his first penalty from Mo Salah at Anfield in September of that year. Not a bad start, therefore.
In 2022-23, he saved three penalties from Domenico Berardi (vs. Sassuolo, a 0-0 draw), from Memphis Depay (for France) and from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (vs. Napoli, a 1-1 draw to secure Champions League progress).
Last season, the former Lille man saved the aforementioned Kean penalty and one from Andrej Kramaric, again on international duty. However, his record is just one save in the last 16 penalties faced.
