Watch: Revisiting Allegri’s iconic outrage which got him banned for Milan vs. Bari

2 days ago 9

Max Allegri won’t be on the bench for AC Milan’s first competitive game of the 2025-26 season tomorrow, as he’s serving a two-game suspension in the competition.

Milan are gearing up to kick off the new campaign, scheduled to take on Bari at San Siro tomorrow. Unfortunately for Allegri, he will be in the stands for this one and not in the dugout, with Marco Landucci expected to lead the Rossoneri instead.

Of course, it all has to do with the two-game suspension that Allegri received after Juve’s win against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final a year ago. It’s a moment that has become rather iconic among calcio fans in general as Allegri’s reaction was entertaining to say the least.

The background

It was towards the end of the final that Allegri wanted Juve to get a free-kick, which the referee Fabio Maresca didn’t agree on. The manager thus made his way over to the fourth official, Maurizio Mariani, and said some well-chosen words – clearly furious – before walking away.

It didn’t end there, though, as Maresca ran over and gave a red card to Allegri, prompting the manager to go back to Mariani before ripping off his tie and unbuttoning his shirt. He stormed off towards the locker rooms screaming ‘where is Rocchi?!’, the head of the AIA (referees’ association).

It was a classic Allegri moment, with a lot of emotion involved and a tie that didn’t make it through the night. As he spoke to the media afterwards, he was significantly calmer but the effects of his outrage will be felt tomorrow.
