Watch: Why Allegri was furious just seconds before full-time in Cagliari vs. Milan

Massimiliano Allegri was caught on camera as he vented his frustration at the end of Cagliari-Milan, just seconds before the referee blew his whistle for full-time.

Allegri is known as a bit of a hot-head in the dugout, not afraid to express his emotions when needed. Let’s put it this way: throughout the years, we have seen the manager throw off his suit jacket and tie many times.

Last night, as Milan were seconds away from their 1-0 win against Cagliari, the jacket and tie remained on but Allegri was visibly upset on the sidelines. This was caught by one of the cameras and there has been some speculation about the cause.

Semplicemente Massimiliano Allegri 😁

Just before that situation, which was when Mike Maignan saved the ball from going out for a corner, Milan had squandered a good counter-attacking chance for Niclas Fullkrug and Christian Pulisic, with the pass not ending up quite in the American’s stride.

That allowed Cagliari’s goalkeeper to send the ball towards Milan’s penalty box, and Alexis Saelemaekers ended up intercepting the ball with a backheel touch. However, that’s when Maignan had to sprint to save the ball from going out for a corner.

Afterwards, Allegri confirmed that it was the wasted counter-attack that upset him, and not the backheel from the Belgian…

“Fullkrug was supposed to play a wide ball there, but instead he played it inside. I was angry about that, because with 10 seconds left, you can’t concede a corner because then there’s a scramble in the box,” he stated.
