Wayne Rooney predicts Liverpool advantage vs Man Utd with Arne Slot claim

1 day ago 18

Wayne Rooney believes that the October international break came at the perfect time for Liverpool after a run of three straight defeats for Arne Slot's side leading into it.

The former Manchester United striker will watch his old side head to Anfield this weekend, but Rooney feels that Liverpool should be well-placed to have reset in the last two weeks. Slot's men lost against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and then Chelsea in a tough week, with more tricky fixtures on the horizon.

"I think certainly for Liverpool, it will definitely have helped Liverpool in just getting away from each other," the pundit said on The Wayne Rooney Show.

"When you lose a few games, two or three games in a row, this is where you end up looking at teammates and saying, ‘You’re doing my head in’.

"Just having that time away from each other and the manager having that time away from the players can actually settle everything down. You have time to think, you go away, you’re obviously with your national team, but then you come back.

"No doubt Arne Slot will have his team talk ready. He knows exactly what he’s going to say to galvanise them after the last few games."

Liverpool hasn't beaten Manchester United at Anfield since the 7-0 game in 2023. Last season, the match between the teams finished 2-2, with the Reds frustrated.

"I look forward to every single Premier League game but maybe even more towards the United one, because I know how special it is and I've experienced last season how special a game it is," Slot said in his pre-match press conference.

"We know that it's probably the game that's been watched the most all over the world.

"It's special to be part of it but in the end it's also a game where we have to be at our best, because United, in my opinion, has had a better start of the season than maybe the league table is showing.

"A very interesting game and a game to look forward to, especially because it's played at Anfield. I think our fans have been so supportive for us as long as I'm here and long before I was here.

"I think they understand that the team that has lost three times in a row, they need to be ready, our team, but I think our fans can help us and will help us on Sunday as well."

Liverpool.com says: There is no doubt that the international break came at a good time for Slot and his players. The chance to get back on track this weekend is one that must be taken and there should be a determination to put in a good performance.
