West Ham head coach comments on Füllkrug’s Milan move: “Clearly it was not working”

West Ham United boss Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Niclas Füllkrug is set to leave the club and sign for AC Milan.

Having signed from Borussia Dortmund in the 2024 summer window, Füllkrug simply never got going with the Hammers. He scored just three goals in 18 months and missed plenty of games due to various physical issues.

Milan sensed the opportunity to sign the centre-forward on advantageous terms and have swooped to sign him on loan with an option to buy. West Ham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo spoke to Sky about the decision to let him leave.

“We wish him well. Clearly it was not working and we want to wish him well. We have a lot of things to think about. Small injuries and he never really got going over consecutive games,” he said.

Deal reached with Milan

It seemed like the price of a possible permanent dealwould be in the region of €12-13m, but this has now been revealed to be a lot lower. Matteo Moretto spoke about the situation, stating: “The option to buy is about 5 million euros. Ready a contract until the end of the season plus another year.”

Di Marzio added: “The operation is different from the Boniface one, there it was a sizeable figure. The option to buy surprised us, too. It’s €5m as buy-out, a low figure, really. He strongly wanted Milan also for the World Cup, which he would like to win with Germany.”
