Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner told his players they would get another chance to score moments before they secured a dramatic late winner against Liverpool.
The Reds’ perfect start to the season was brought to a crashing end at Selhurst Park after Eddie Nketiah struck deep into stoppage time to secure Palace a 2-1 victory, and keep their own unbeaten run.
Federico Chiesa had looked to have secured the visitors a point when he equalized in the 87th minute after Ismaila Sarr’s first-half opener, but having benefited from a number of late winners so far this season, Liverpool’s luck finally ran out as they fell to a first defeat of the season.
It certainly hadn’t been a vintage performance from Arne Slot’s side, who had Alisson Becker to thank for keeping the score at just 1-0 before half-time after making a string of superb saves.
The Reds did improve after the break, but Palace were deserving of their victory, with Nketiah revealing after the game that Glasner had told his players they would get a final chance to grab a winner.
"That's what our fans are known for and shows the togetherness of the group. We always keep believing,” Nketiah told Sky Sports.
“There was still time to play. The manager said to stay calm and you will get another situation and thankfully we did.
"There aren't many teams who can create that many chances against Liverpool so a thoroughly deserved three points.
"We are just taking it one game at a time. We have a really good group, we will keep pushing and try to bring more success to the fans."
Speaking to the BBC’s Match of the Day, Nketiah would go on to add: "The boys are in really good form and think we can win every game and today we showed that.

"That's the environment we have created, we go into every game thinking we can win.
"The manager just said to help the team. Whenever I come on I've got to fight and help."
Liverpool.com says: Liverpool was so poor defensively at Palace, and it’s no surprise that the hosts still felt they had a chance to win the game, even after Chiesa’s goal with just a few minutes remaining.
The Reds have rode their luck at times this season, but it finally ran out at Selhurst Park, and there are some serious questions that need to be asked of one or two players after that performance.
