Liverpool confirmed that its press conference at Deutsche Bank Park to preview Wednesday's Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt has been cancelled.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai were scheduled to address the media on Tuesday. However, a statement from the Reds reads: "Our pre-match press conference for the clash with Eintracht Frankfurt has been cancelled.
"A delay in the squad's scheduled flight out to Frankfurt, due to technical issues with the aircraft, means the briefing will now not be able to take place." The Liverpool squad were left stranded at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Whilst journalists had gathered at Frankfurt's home stadium, the press conference will now not proceed.
But at 7.05pm BST, The Athletic's James Pearce posted on X: "Plane finally given the green light to take off from John Lennon Airport. Been a delay of around 3hrs. Means LFC squad will be able to land in Frankfurt tonight - local airport shuts at 10pm UK time."
It remains uncertain whether midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is amongst the travelling Reds squad.
Gravenberch rolled his ankle whilst challenging Bryan Mbeumo early in the second half of Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United and whilst he initially attempted to continue, he was substituted shortly after the hour-mark.
Slot confirmed post-match that his fellow countryman's absence was due to an injury, which will be evaluated before the team's journey to Germany.
However, Gravenberch was noticeably absent from the public training session held at the AXA Training Centre earlier today.
On a brighter note for Liverpool, Wataru Endo made a return to training. The Japanese international had missed the loss to United due to a hamstring injury, having also been sidelined during international duty after sustaining the problem against Chelsea.
Frankfurt boss meanwhile did face the media on Tuesday and confirmed there will be a change in the home goal.
Frankfurt has scored 12 goals but conceded a whopping 18 in its last five games, and Brazilian goalkeeper Kaua Santos lined up between the sticks in each of those games. Dino Toppmoller, the Frankfurt manager, said that Santos will be taken out of the firing line against Liverpool, with Michael Zetterer taking his place in the starting line-up.
“We made this decision after several discussions because we felt it might be important for Kaua to take a step back right now. There’s been a lot coming at him recently,” Toppmoller explained.
