It once again looks like the Scudetto race could go right down to the wire, with five teams legitimate contenders at present.
There are five teams – Inter, Milan, Napoli, Roma and Juventus to be specific – separated by just four points at the top of the league table as we end 2025. All of the aforementioned will feel like they can go the distance and lift the title.
Inter are the ones that are currently top of the pile with 36 points from their first 16 games of the season. They overtook Milan on Sunday night by beating Atalanta away from home, a few hours after the Rossoneri had won against Verona at San Siro.
Napoli were the favourites among the bookmakers heading into the campaign, having won the title last season. They currently find themselves in third place on 34 points after 16 league games, after a Rasmus Hojlund brace gave them a 2-0 victory against Cremonese on Sunday.
Roma beat Genoa 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday night with Matias Soule, Manu Kone, Evan Ferguson scoring. With that, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side moved up into fourth place in the Serie A standings with 33 points from 17 matches.
Juventus are having a resurgence under Luciano Spalletti and sit in fifth. Pierre Kalulu and Kenan Yildiz gave them a 2-0 win against Pisa on Saturday, and with Lecce, Sassuolo, Cremonese and Cagliari coming up over the next couple of weeks, they will feel they can rise further.

Serie A: Simply the best?
By comparison, the top five clubs in the Premier League and LaLiga are both separated by 13 points at the end of the calendar year. In the Bundesliga, 14 points separate the top five with Bayern Munich again running away with it. In Ligue 1, 10 points separate the top five.
The Italian top flight is no stranger to title battles that go right down to the wire. Last season, Napoli needed to beat Cagliari at home to beat Inter to the Scudetto. In 2021-22, the Nerazzurri missed out on the last day again as Milan won the league.
With the league being so competitive again, it can only be a good thing in terms of international appeal, helping to sell TV rights and perhaps attract investment to help grow Serie A, which has lagged behind since the glory days of the 1990s and 2000s.
