Callum Doyle played 43 games while on loan at Norwich City in 2024-25
Wrexham are closing in on another high-profile signing with the Championship club looking to finalise a deal for Manchester City defender Callum Doyle.
Reports suggest Wrexham have agreed a fee which could rise to £8m for the England Under-21 international.
Manchester-born Doyle, 21, is a product of the City academy, though he has never played for the first team having spent the last four seasons out on loan.
Doyle began his senior career with a year-long loan spell at Sunderland, who were then in League One, in 2021-22.
He spent the next campaigns on loan in the Championship, with Coventry City in 2022-23, Leicester City in 2023-24 and Norwich City last season.
Doyle, who will give Wrexham a left-sided option in central defence, already has 158 club games - and two goals - under his belt.
He has also played for England at various age-grade levels, though he was not part of the squad which won this summer's European Under-21 Championship.
Wrexham, who are owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have already spent heavily having won a third straight promotion last season to return to the second tier after 43 years away.
The north Wales club shattered their transfer record last week to sign Wales international Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town in a deal which could eventually be worth £10m.
The previous high mark was believed to be in excess of £3m, which Wrexham paid to sign midfielder Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest last month.
Wales internationals Danny Ward and Kieffer Moore have also moved to the Stok Cae Ras this summer along with forwards Josh Windass and Ryan Hardie, defenders Conor Coady and Liberato Cacace and midfielder George Thomason.
