Xavi Simons to Chelsea transfer update as Enzo Maresca handed fresh stumbling block

3 hours ago 25

Chelsea could still welcome another trio into Enzo Maresca's squad which would see their new signings hit double-figures. Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro and Jorrel Hato have already joined which has seen roughly £200million spent.

With a similar number of first-team exits sanctioned, the Blues are in a position to continue spending and that has seen another two attackers formally targeted.

Xavi Simons is one of those with talks gradually progressing after both Chelsea and RB Leipzig focused their efforts elsewhere. Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United is the other with the Argentine keen to seal a move to Stamford Bridge.

Further departures being sealed to balance the books and also help Maresca's squad become less bloated, looks likely. Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are two names free to depart that could certainly help Chelsea raise funds.

With all of that being said, football.london gives a new perspective on the latest Chelsea transfer topics and rumours.

Simons transfer update

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has admitted that Simons to Chelsea is "85 per cent [likely] to happen". The attacking midfielder being focused on a move to Chelsea has likely played a role in such an update, but he has remained professional by still playing for RB Leipzig.

football.london says: Despite it seeming highly unlikely he goes anywhere else, until the switch is confirmed, Chelsea fans will be anxiously looking out for concrete updates.

Simons still featuring for the Bundesliga club suggests that nothing is imminent but Chelsea's lack of incisiveness against Crystal Palace, will make it very likely they want him signed as soon as possible. It does not appear as though his signing depends on an exit.

However, Chelsea will want to ensure that a departure being sealed is not too far behind to potentially ensure Garnacho also joins to strengthen the attack.

Jackson stumbling block

Chelsea are hoping to sell Jackson before the summer window ends but interested parties could face difficulty getting a deal over the line. That is largely because of his wage demands and the asking price from west London.

Following the injury to Romelu Lukaku, Napoli are the latest club to be credited with an interest and though talks are expected to take place, finances could be an issue, as per the Telegraph.

football.london says: Given their pressing need to sign a forward, Jackson joining Napoli was starting to look very likely. AC Milan are another club that may struggle to afford his signing which suggests remaining in the Premier League is a real option.

Aston Villa and Newcastle United have made enquiries but a move to either going through will likely depend on several other possible transfers elsewhere.

Either way, it is clear that a permanent exit is Chelsea's priority but they may be forced to accept a loan exit with his wages covered considering what both Jackson and the Blues want.
