Yesterday’s report and Milan players on international duty today: from Leao to Modric

Four AC Milan players were involved in international duty yesterday, while there will be one in action today, namely Luka Modric.

The international break is entering the second phase, with most teams preparing for their second and final game. Indeed, it will all be concluded by the middle of next week and then, Milan will begin preparations for the game against Fiorentina.

As relayed on the official website, four players were involved in international duty yesterday: Matteo Gabbia (Italy), Santiago Gimenez (Mexico), Rafael Leao (Portugal) and Strahinja Pavlovic (Serbia). Today, meanwhile, Luka Modric (Croatia) will likely be in action against Gibraltar.

Recap of yesterday’s displays

Leao, as the report on Milan’s site begins, played around 30 minutes for Portugal in the 1-0 win against Ireland. He came off the bench in the second half and nearly scored a goal, firing a left-footed striker just wide of the post.

Gimenez got 67 minutes for Mexico in what was a heavy 4-0 defeat against Colombia. Similar to what we have seen at Milan, the striker worked hard every minute that he was on the pitch, but was ultimately unable to add a spark in attack.

Pavlovic played the full (heated) game between Serbia and Albania, in which the latter prevailed by the odd goal. The Milan defender actually had a decent game and offered support in attack from time to time, as we have seen in Serie A, and the goal came through a corner.

Gabbia was on the bench for Italy’s game against Estonia, which the Azzurri won by three goals to one. It remains to be seen if he will be used against Israel on Tuesday.
