Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister said this week that talks have not been held regarding a potential contract extension for him at Anfield, though he is in "no rush".

The Argentine is currently tied down until 2028. By the time Mac Allister's existing deal expires, he will be 29, and this season has not been his best in a Liverpool jersey, where he and the team have struggled.

Looking further down the line, Mac Allister, who won the World Cup with his country in 2022, wants to return to Argentina. He also says that becoming a father has made him re-evaluate his priorities.

Speaking to the streamer La Agusneta, and translated by Planeta Boca Juniors, Mac Allister outlined his current thinking on how the rest of his career could look.

"I became a dad and you start prioritizing a lot of things," he said. "And maybe it's not so selfish to only do what I want."

"I’d love to return to Argentinos Juniors because my dad and my brothers all grew up there and we’re grateful," he continued. "And then, obviously, to Boca at some point."

"There are no negotiations with Liverpool to renew the contract," Mac Allister's father, Carlos, told WinWin recently.

"Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment," Carlos Mac Allister had previously stated. "We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club's plan is."

Mac Allister has started 24 of Liverpool's 28 Premier League games so far this season. He has also scored four goals in all competitions in the calendar year to date.

A few weeks ago, Mac Allister was linked with a move to Manchester United. However, the chances of the South American joining the Old Trafford side seem slim.

"I think Mac Allister is doing very well," Sergio Aguero told Liverpool.com recently. "He's at his best. I think what happened is that the whole Liverpool team's performance dropped in the first part of the season. And they're gradually recovering.

"Alexis has already shown that he's a key player for his team, and it's understandable that there are transfer rumors. But I don't know what will happen in the future."

Liverpool.com says: Handing a new deal to Mac Allister is not necessarily a formality. His form this season has not been great and he will potentially be outside of his peak years by the time his existing deal runs out.
