Liverpool's summer spending spree has been nothing short of extraordinary, but the biggest deal may still be on the horizon.
So far, the Reds have shelled out around $400 million in transfer fees for six high-profile signings: Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Giovanni Leoni. However, they're not finished yet. Last week, Liverpool initiated discussions with Crystal Palace regarding its captain and center-back Marc Guehi.
Liverpool also continues to show interest in Alexander Isak. The Newcastle striker is at the heart of this summer's most talked-about transfer saga. He's made it crystal clear that he wants to swap the Magpies for the Reds.
But instead of signing Isak, Liverpool boss Arne Slot could turn to young sensation Rio Ngumoha, who has been turning heads with his dazzling performances and goals during pre-season.
The 16-year-old remained on the bench during recent games against Bournemouth and Palace in the Community Shield. However, a former Liverpool winger has assured Ngumoha that he will play a significant role in the 2025-26 season.
Jermaine Pennant, who made 81 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals and assisting 17, stated: "I think Rio can make a real push into the first team. Especially with Harvey Elliott potentially leaving. Rio doesn't look out of place.
"He's playing against men and he looks comfortable. He's skipping past players and beating them. He's earned the right to be part of the squad and be in the first-team changing room, training with the first team.
"They'd be stupid not to include him in their plans with the goals he's scored. They've been good goals where he's dribbling past players from his own half.
"When it's time to give Gakpo a rest, for example he should play because he's made a name for himself."
Pennant has suggested that Elliott could be the next player to leave Anfield. The star of England's victorious U21 Euros squad this summer is a lifelong Liverpool fan. However, with the arrival of Wirtz, his chances of regular starts have been further diminished.
RB Leipzig is believed to be interested in signing Elliott, but Pennant believes that Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Tottenham, who recently saw Arsenal snatch Palace talisman Eberechi Eze from under its nose, would both be suitable destinations.
Speaking to AceOdds.com, Pennant said: "I don't think Harvey can stay and fight for his place because we don't know what his best place is? We don't know if he's an 8, a 10, or out wide right or left. He hasn't got a fixed position.
"He's an amazing utility man, but there is a team out there that will see what he has to offer and can find a role for him. He's a great player, and he's chipped in each season.
"(James) Maddison is injured, for example, and Elliott played a huge role in the England U21s winning the recent tournament, so a number of clubs could benefit from having him. Aston Villa are one; Tottenham could benefit, too.
"Any other team in the Prem could use someone like him."
