Crystal Palace is under the impression that Liverpool is the only club likely to make a move for Marc Guehi in January, with other potential suitors expected to wait until he becomes available on a free transfer.
The Eagles' captain was close to a move to Anfield during the final hours of the summer transfer window, but the deal fell through. However, it has always been anticipated that Liverpool would reignite its interest in the 25-year-old defender.
With his contract set to expire in 2026, other clubs have shown interest in Guehi recently, knowing he could be acquired without a transfer fee. Several of Europe's top clubs have been linked with Guehi, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
This, coupled with Liverpool's need for defensive reinforcements, might prompt the Reds to act before next summer.
According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Palace believe that currently, only Liverpool is likely to approach Guehi once the transfer window reopens in January. This would provide the south London club with one last opportunity to profit from the former Chelsea player.
Moreover, those at Selhurst Park are of the view that Guehi's other European admirers are content to wait until the summer.
This could give Liverpool an advantage in securing a deal for Guehi. The Premier League champions are short on defensive options after their summer signing, Giovanni Leoni, sustained an ACL injury which will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
Despite a summer spending spree of over $500million, Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up Antoine Semenyo for a potential January transfer window swoop.
The sought-after Ghanaian attacker has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, and it's now been revealed that a release clause worth $85M (£65m) will become active in the first fortnight of the winter window.
Darren Bent has drawn comparisons between the "unstoppable" former Bristol City star and Gareth Bale, suggesting he could be enticed by the opportunity to join the Reds. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "I think he [Semenyo] would go to Liverpool. I think he can get into any top, top squad.
"You're still going to get more than enough minutes but it depends on his ambition. His ambition might be: 'Get me to Manchester City, I'm better than Doku,' that might be his mindset."
