Jurgen Klopp has hinted he could make a return to Liverpool, although it seems he isn’t planning on replacing Arne Slot any time soon.
Slot is coming under increasing pressure at Anfield following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Reds have now lost six of their last seven Premier League games, and eight of their last 11 outings across all competitions.
Just 12 league games into the season and having dropped into the bottom half of the table, Liverpool’s title defense already looks to be over, with serious questions being asked about Slot’s position as he continues to fail to turn things around with his underperforming players.
Although there aren’t any immediate signs of Slot’s job being in danger, his side’s run means it is impossible for him to escape the inevitable scrutiny from supporters, with some beginning to lose patience.
Klopp’s name has been thrown around by some on social media for a potential return as manager, and bookmakers in the UK have made him the favorite to succeed Slot should Liverpool decide to fire its current boss.
Klopp of course left Liverpool last year after nearly nine years in charge, during which time he transformed the club’s fortunes and established himself as an Anfield legend.
Upon his departure, he insisted he would not manage another Premier League side, although speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast last month, he left the door open for a return to Merseyside.
"I said I will never coach a team in England again, that means if it's Liverpool, theoretically it's possible," Klopp explained.
However, Klopp also indicated that he isn’t looking to make a return to management any time soon. The 58-year-old is currently working as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, having taken up the position at the start of 2025, and has insisted he is enjoying life away from the touchline.

"I don't know exactly, I love what I do right now. I don't miss coaching, I do coach now but just different,” Klopp said.
"I don't miss standing in the rain, two-and-a-half [to] three hours; I don't miss going to press conferences three times a week, and having 12 interviews a week. I don't miss that; I don't.
"I don't miss being in the dressing room, I coached something like 1,080 games so I was in a dressing room often. I don't want to die in a dressing room because it's nice. It smells.
"There might be something, I'm 58, I could make the decision in a few years... I don't know. Do I have to make the decision today that I will not coach again but thank god I don't have to, I can just see what the future brings.
"Now I'm in a project I really love, I like doing what I'm doing right now. In my mind, only if I'm focused 100 per cent, I can do it really good."
Should Liverpool find itself forced into a decision on Slot’s future then, it seems a lot of fans might not get their wish for Klopp to return as manager.
Slot does still have a lot of credit in the bank following the Reds’ title triumph last season, but with opinion among some fans already starting to turn, he will have to find a solution to Liverpool’s problems quickly.
