Jurgen Klopp said he will return for next year's Liverpool legends game
Jurgen Klopp has said he plans to return to Liverpool next year for the annual legends game at Anfield.
The German was back on Merseyside this weekend for the charity match organized by the LFC Foundation, with Klopp part of Liverpool’s coaching group for the game against another of his former sides, Dortmund.
Thiago and Jay Spearing were on target for the Reds in the first period, but they squandered that two-goal half-time lead and drew 2-2 courtesy of strikes from Mohamed Zidan and Jan Koller. This was Klopp’s first involvement in the legends game since he left the club as manager in 2024, and the LFC Foundation ambassador confirmed after the game that he will be back for next year’s fundraiser.

“My role was definitely not to have a lot of words. I was here for the Foundation and to be part of a really special experience.
“For me, a very special experience after a while – being around, being that close, seeing all the Liverpool lads and then seeing the Dortmund lads as well because that was like 80 percent of my players.
“And you don’t meet very often and have them all together in one room. It’s really cool.

“It was really, really, really nice. And the people suck it in. It’s just so nice to see all the boys playing – but I think Thiago alone was worth the ticket.”
This was also Klopp’s first time back at Anfield following the passing of Diogo Jota. The 58-year-old was visibly moved when the ball was kicked out of play in the 20th minute to allow both sets of players to applaud in his memory. Thiago was reduced to tears on the pitch.
Meanwhile, Klopp was serenaded by supporters on his return and even brought back his iconic fist-pump celebration after the game, which he directed at three sides of Anfield.

Steven Gerrard was back in a Liverpool shirt on Saturday
Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch, Pepe Reina, and Dirk Kuyt were among those involved for Liverpool in front of a record crowd of 60,582.
“The support we’ve had today, 60,000 — come on, no other club in the world does this, 60,000 for exhibition games,” Gerrard said after the game.
“The big thing for me is where the money goes, it goes to fantastic causes, helping a lot of people in need. And that’s the reason why we’re all here today.”
