Liverpool will be without six players as it takes on Everton in the Merseyside derby this weekend, with Hugo Ekitike having sustained a "serious" injury to his Achilles tendon.

While the Frenchman has not undergone surgery yet, Ekitike is set to miss the summer's World Cup and could be out for a number of months thanks to the painful issue that saw him stretchered off against PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday.

In Ekitike's absence, Cody Gakpo could start as Liverpool's number nine at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this weekend. Alexander Isak is another option, but he is still working his way back to full match sharpness.

Slot also revealed on Friday that Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez for its trip to Everton, with the defender having been taken off in the second half of the PSG game.

Gomez came on as a substitute but was then taken off again, with the defender set to be sidelined for an as-yet-undetermined amount of time. It didn't appear to be a serious problem.

Elsewhere, Alisson Becker is not expected to be back, meaning Giorgi Mamardashvili will remain in goal. The Brazilian could yet return before the end of the season and Slot previously said he could reappear before the end of the month.

Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni are long-term absentees and may not be seen again until the summer. There are only six games remaining of the current campaign.

Liverpool currently sits fifth in the standings, with a four-point gap to Chelsea. A top-five finish has already been confirmed as being sufficient to qualify for the Champions League.

Jayden Danns, meanwhile, is also sidelined at the moment as his injury struggles continue. The 20-year-old striker has been suffering with various setbacks for some time.

"The good thing for him is that he's been out for such a long time and he's now getting back with the U21s, getting some playing time," Slot explained.

"But I think there's still a lot of steps to be made if you've not even played 90 minutes [for] the U21s, let alone then play a Premier League game.

"But the first thing that comes to my mind is that he's worked so hard — I know this because I've seen him around over here a lot — to be where he is now.

"He's also been so unlucky to be out for such a long time. I really like him to be back but the reality is that he's not on the bench for us this weekend."
