Arne Slot is grappling with a Liverpool injury crisis amid a significant dip in form.
The Reds kicked off the season with seven straight victories, but have since lost six of their last seven matches, resulting in a slide down the Premier League table and an exit from the Carabao Cup. Anfield witnessed major changes over the summer as established stars like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz left, while big-money signings such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz arrived.
Even during their winning streak, it was evident that Liverpool had issues, and these seem to have been laid bare in recent weeks. In addition to several losses, Slot has seen key players sidelined due to injuries, including Alexis Mac Allister, who has been struggling.
Alisson, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexander Isak have all missed crucial matches, with Slot hoping they'll return for a tough nine-day stretch featuring games against Aston Villa, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.
One player who will definitely miss these fixtures is Jeremie Frimpong. The summer signing is expected to be out for up to six weeks after pulling his hamstring in the Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this month.
With that in mind, we provide a comprehensive update on Frimpong's injury and the status of other currently unavailable Liverpool stars...
What has Slot said about Frimpong?
Slot appeared to confirm the extent of Frimpong's setback during his pre-match press conference before last weekend's trip to Brentford. "Jeremie is not in a good place," he said. "He's definitely not going to play today, tomorrow, or next week. His hamstring injury is going to take a while."
The Liverpool manager did not mention Frimpong's injury ahead of the Villa fixture, having already clarified his unavailability.
Which fixtures will Frimpong miss?
Frimpong sustained the injury on October 22, with a six-week layoff from that point, meaning he will be absent for matches against Villa, Real Madrid, and Manchester City before the November international break.
After the final two-week-long domestic break of 2025, Liverpool hosts Nottingham Forest, PSV, West Ham, Sunderland, and Leeds, all before December 10, making his participation in those fixtures highly unlikely.
The Netherlands international could potentially return for the Champions League encounter with Inter Milan the following day, but if not, he should be available for Brighton's visit to Anfield that weekend.
Should the six-week timeline run from today, he would be ruled out of the Seagulls' match and probably the journey to Tottenham just before Christmas.
Other injured Liverpool players
Frimpong is not Liverpool's only injury concern, with Slot confirming that Curtis Jones and Isak are 99.99 percent ruled out of Saturday's fixture. However, he was able to provide encouraging news regarding Ryan Gravenberch's condition.
"Ryan trained yesterday, Isak and Jones didn't yet," he said. "Let's wait and see where they are. Ryan trained with us today, and we'll make the call if he can start. The other two 99.9 percent not in the squad."
With such a rapid turnaround between fixtures, it appears improbable that either player will be available for selection against Los Blancos on Tuesday, and quite possibly not for next weekend's encounter at the Etihad Stadium either.
Alisson is also expected to remain sidelined, though he is moving closer to full fitness, with a realistic possibility of reclaiming his position between the posts before the international break as his rehabilitation progresses.
Giovanni Leoni represents Liverpool's sole long-term casualty, with the teenage summer acquisition facing the remainder of the campaign on the sidelines, and potentially beyond, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture.
