Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister has admitted that nobody at Anfield can match Mohamed Salah's dedication to fitness.

Salah shocked the soccer world last week by confirming his departure from the club this summer. The forward will conclude his nine-year stint on Merseyside. He has cemented his status as a Liverpool legend with a collection of major silverware, including two Premier League crowns and the 2019 Champions League triumph.

Speaking to the Player's Tribune, Argentina midfielder Mac Allister revealed: "Mo, he's hilarious. For a few weeks, I actually tried to get to the gym before him, but it was impossible. He was always there already, sweating.

"One day, I asked him, 'But Mo... when do you sleep?' He said, 'I don't like it when I get more than seven hours. I feel tired.' [I replied], 'You feel tired?' [And he said], 'Yeah, it's too much. You only need six-and-a-half.'

"He would be in the gym for an hour, and someone would say, 'Mo, are you finished? Let's go eat.' [He would say], 'No, no. I just did my abs. Now I have to really work out.'

"When I first arrived, I tried to compete with him. I thought, 'OK, the guy is 31. I'm 24. Let's do some abs.' Damn, I think I did three sessions with Mo before I gave up. I would wake up the next morning, and I was so sore I could barely sit up in bed."

The midfielder has excelled since his move to Anfield from Brighton during the summer of 2023. The Premier League champion also disclosed that Salah's influence extends so far that the Egyptian convinced him to alter his pre-match clothing choices.

"When I was in Brighton, I used to wear trousers. Then I came here and I remember against Sheffield [United] we went out to the warm up," Mac Allister told Liverpool's TV channel.

"I was wearing a hat and trousers, and Mo Salah told me, 'What are you doing? Why are you wearing that?' So since that day, I never wore trousers... Only because of Mo."

Ex-Liverpool player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has likewise confessed his surprise at Salah's relentless dedication during their time together at Anfield.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Arsenal during the summer of 2017, the same window as Salah's arrival.

The pair were teammates for six campaigns under former manager Jurgen Klopp. Now at Celtic, Oxlade-Chamberlain offered insight into his ex-colleague, expressing astonishment at Salah's departure from Liverpool while highlighting the 33-year-old's remarkable work ethic.

Speaking on In The Mixer brought to you by Sky Bet, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: "In terms of professionals, I have never seen anyone do what Mo does every hour of the day to the point where I straight up look at him and think, 'I don't think I could do that and fair play.'

"He comes off the pitch, he's installed ice baths, ice chambers, cryo chambers in his house and red light therapy and he is from one thing to the next. He definitely doesn't play golf or anything in his free time. He ain't got time for anything else."
