Serie A side Roma is in talks with Liverpool regarding a possible move for Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas.
The defender is free to leave the Reds following the summer arrival of Milos Kerkez, which pushed the number of left-backs in the squad up to three. Tsimikas played regularly in pre-season, often deployed as an auxiliary center-back, but has not been named in the matchday squad in each of the first two games of the new campaign.
Tsimikas was in talks to join Nottingham Forest earlier this month, although there has been no progress on those negotiations despite the Midlands club pushing ahead with several other transfers in recent weeks. Liverpool’s no.21 has attracted widespread interest this summer, but it seems Roma could be on the verge of securing his services for the 2025/26 season.
Reports from Italy on Saturday suggested Roma sees Tsimikas as a possible deputy for Angelino, with the club approaching Liverpool to discuss a possible loan.
However, Liverpool.com understands the Reds’ preference would be a permanent sale for the 29-year-old. It’s unclear at this stage how far negotiations have progressed, but a solution is expected soon, with a little over a week until the transfer window shuts
Tsimikas has dropped several hints over the summer that he planned to remain at Anfield, but as Arne Slot even acknowledged in Thursday’s press conference, the club has no need for three left-backs.
The Greece international joined Liverpool in 2020 and has offered reliable cover for Andy Robertson in his half-decade on Merseyside.
He has made 115 appearances in that time, and played 29 times last season. That included nine Premier League starts.
“I'm happy here, for five years I've always been happy with these players I had by my side and with the jersey I wore,” Tsimikas told Greek outlet Sport 24 in an interview at the end of last season.
“But for me, the 27-29 games I play every year in all competitions are more than playing 40 for another team and in another league. Here I am on the Broadway of football.
“It's very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in a season with a Liverpool shirt. If you think about it, not all players play 50 games; some play 50, others 10, others play five.”
But the arrival of Kerkez has changed the complexion at left-back and throughout the window there has always been a sense one of Robertson or Tsimikas would depart.
It looks set to be the latter, who has established himself as a firm fan favorite during his time at Liverpool and earned himself the nickname “the Greek scouser”.
The former Olympiacos man picked up a Premier League winner’s medal last season to go alongside one from the FA Cup and two in the Carabao Cup.
