Luis Diaz’s hopes of securing a summer move away from Liverpool appear to be fading fast, with Bayern Munich now emerging as his only realistic destination.
Diaz has been the subject of transfer speculation for months, with reported interest from clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and several Saudi Pro League sides. Yet one by one, those options have either cooled or disappeared entirely.
The Catalan club has been consistently linked with the Colombian with the Spanish giants strongly tipped to move for the winger as far back as last year. Hopes of a renewed push this summer seemed likely, especially given Diaz’s admiration for the current La Liga champions with Liverpool reportedly rejected an approach from Barca earlier in the window.
Sporting director Deco has done little to hide the club’s interest, hinting publicly that Díaz could be a future target. Given the player’s well-known affinity for Barcelona, many viewed the Camp Nou as a natural landing spot — if Liverpool could be persuaded to soften its firm stance. However a move for the 28-year-old now seems to be off the cards.
According to The Athletic, Barcelona is making progress in their pursuit of Marcus Rashford, having submitted a loan proposal via intermediaries to Manchester United that includes an option to buy. The 27-year-old is keen on the move, and United have given the green light in principle. While the deal is not yet finalised, negotiations between all parties are understood to be in the final stages.
Barcelona has been actively searching for an attacker capable of playing both on the wing and through the middle — a profile that fits Rashford well. Reinforcing the left flank has been a key priority for the Catalan club after they found themselves lacking depth in that area toward the end of last season.
With Rashford set to join Hansi Flick's side, that leaves Bayern as the last remaining top-level suitor for Diaz.
The German giants have reportedly submitted a bid worth $67.5 million for the Colombian winger as they look to reinforce their wide options under new manager Vincent Kompany.
The Bundesliga outfit are in the market for a dynamic winger — and Diaz fits the profile. Vincent Kompany is said to admire his aggressive dribbling, work rate, and big-game mentality. However, Liverpool’s response has been unequivocal. The club have rejected Bayern’s opening offer and insist the 28-year-old is not available at any price.
Arne Slot sees Diaz as a key piece in his attacking setup and wants to evaluate him fully in pre-season before any decisions are made. With two years still remaining on his contract, Liverpool is under no pressure to sell and even if the club decide to cash in next season, the Reds are said to value the player at $116 million.
Liverpool.com says: As the new season approaches and transfer windows begin to narrow, Diaz’s options appear increasingly limited. If he’s to leave Anfield this summer, it may now be Bayern or bust — but with Liverpool not budging, even that outcome seems unlikely.
