Teenage sensation Cavan Sullivan continues to generate headlines in the US with his first senior goals for Philadelphia Union in the Concacaf Champions Cup

Imminent Manchester City midfielder Cavan Sullivan made more history with Philadelphia Union on Thursday after he scored a brace and assisted another two in the 7-0 win against Defence Force in the Concacaf Champions Cup (CCC).

Sullivan, 16, is widely reported to join City when he turns 18 in September 2027. The midfielder has reached a number of milestones in the United States, becoming the then-youngest player to debut for a North American major league sports team at 14 years, 293 days, as well as being the second-youngest in MLS history to start at 15 years, 280 days.

On Thursday night, Sullivan made more history with the first-team as they thrashed the Trinidad & Tobago side. His two goals were his first for the MLS side after 18 appearances, having scored 11 times for their reserve side in the MLS Next Pro.

His first goal made him the youngest American goalscorer in CCC history. The US youth international created goals for Stas Korzeniowski and Ben Bender before finding the net himself in the 76th and 88th minutes.

Sullivan's switch to City has not been confirmed by the club, Philadelphia or the MLS. The Citizens aren't expected to confirm any move involving Sullivan, though they have been busy making their mark in the market of highly-rated teenagers from across the globe recently.

"The collaboration between the Union and the City Ground... I think that did it for me," he told ESPN upon signing his professional contract. "I always watch Man City. They're like every kid's dream team.

"For them [Philadelphia and City] to come together and agree on something - I sat with my family and my agents and we decided that it was the best plan.

"I guess my goal is just to become a regular player [for Philadelphia] within the next two years. And then after that I would hope to be a starter. I guess that's from the 16 to 18 age window. And then right when I'm 18 I hope to be at the level of the Man City first team."

His father is quoted as saying: "I think he's a pretty mature kid. I think he gets some of it. That's not to say we don't think there's going to be bumps along the way. We definitely know that.

"And I think that's part of the reason this collaboration between the Union and City Group is so important because he really does have a safety net here."
