Mohamed Salah has announced he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after an incredible career that has seen him win two Premier League titles

Steven Gerrard had no words as he reacted to Mohamed Salah's shock announcement that he is to call time on his Liverpool career this summer.

Salah announced his exit in an emotional video on social media before Liverpool issued a statement to confirm he would be leaving at the end of the season.

The news brings the curtain down on an incredible career for the Egyptian, who alongside Gerrard, will go down as one of the club's greatest ever players. He currently sits third on Liverpool's all-time goalscoring list, behind only Roger Hunt and Ian Rush and he will look to add to his tally before the end of the season.

Gerrard reposted Liverpool's statement to his Instagram story without any captions or words, having seemingly been left stunned by the announcement.

Salah only signed a new two-year contract last summer after his goals helped Liverpool win the Premier League title in Arne Slot's first season in charge. But in what has been a nightmare title defense, Salah's performance levels have undoubtedly dropped.

He was axed from the starting line up by Slot earlier in the campaign before a bombshell interview where he claimed his relationship with the boss, and the club, had broken down.

Salah has returned to the fold in recent weeks but has now announced his plans to leave the club, with a move to Saudi Arabia appearing likely at the end of the season.

"Hello everyone. Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

"I wanted to start by saying I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life.

"Liverpool is not just a football club. It is a passion, a history, a spirit that I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club.

"We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our lives.

"I want to thank everyone who was part of this club during my time here, especially my teammates, past and present.

"And to the fans, I don't have enough words. The support you showed me, through the best time of my career, is something I will never forget and something I will always take with me.

"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
