Tottenham receive huge injury boost as key player is 15 days ahead of schedule

A senior Tottenham Hotspur man, who has been out of action since the start of January, is edging closer to an early return.

There appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel for Spurs in terms of their injury situation, with new players being added to the treatment table just as others return to action.

Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha are the latest Tottenham players to pick up injuries, with the Lilywhites having double-digit absentees for their trio to Anfield.

However, there has now been some positive news regarding a Spurs midfielder who has been out of action for over two months.

Rodrigo Bentancur may return quicker than Tottenham expected

Rodrigo Bentancur has been out with a hamstring injury since the start of the year, but his personal fitness coach, Daniel Fernandez, has provided a positive update on the midfielder’s situation.

Fernandez told 100% Deporte (as relayed by Sport Witness) that Bentancur’s recovery is progressing faster than initially expected and that his surgical wounds have healed well.

He revealed that the Tottenham star is around 15 days ahead of the original prognosis and has already started outdoor fitness work, which is an important step in the process.

Bentancur had focused on rehabilitation and strength training for several weeks, and has now moved on to ‘football-specific’ moments.

The 28-year-old is following an ‘intense routine’ which is designed to accelerate his recovery while controlling his workload.

When is Bentancur expected to return to action?

Fernandez says that at present, the midfielder is completing three training sessions a day, primarily focused on muscular strengthening and progressive conditioning.

The programme is coordinated between Tottenham’s medical staff and Bentantcur’s personal trainer, while extra specialists have also been working on various aspects of his recovery.

While Spurs are managing the process, the Uruguay national team are also regularly receiving medical reports on the player.

Fernandez adds that based on the current timeline, the expectation is that Bentancur will be fit to play by the end of March.
