Liverpool supporters enjoyed some nostalgia at the weekend when Jurgen Klopp returned to Anfield for a charity match against Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp's successor, Arne Slot, achieved the seemingly impossible by clinching the Premier League title in his first campaign with the Reds. Yet it has not been plain sailing since, with Liverpool struggling in the league. Klopp's brief return captivated many, and the Champions League-winning manager has since sent a heartfelt message to those supporters.

With the international break well underway, the Reds are also still coming to terms with the news that Mohamed Salah will depart the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool.com's latest coverage focuses on what Klopp had to say to the Kop following his homecoming, while three potential replacements for Salah have reportedly been identified by the club.

Klopp's message

Klopp has expressed his gratitude to Liverpool for the reception he received on his "homecoming" to Merseyside. Klopp was afforded a hero's welcome as he oversaw an entertaining 2-2 draw at Anfield, played in aid of the LFC Foundation.

Goals from Jay Spearing and Thiago ensured the Reds shared the spoils. Klopp took to Instagram on Monday, posting several photos from his visit and stating: "Thank you to everyone who made my homecoming so special."

In a separate post — with him pictured alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and John Aldridge — Klopp added: "A dream you don’t dare to dream became true: First time as an assistant coach in my life.

"What an honor to assist Sir Kenny, alongside Ian and John! I hope I did an ok job — and surely we’ve had a lot of fun."

Salah successor

Following Salah's confirmation of his end-of-season departure, various names have surfaced as potential replacements. Bayern Munich's Michael Olise, Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig and Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao have all been mentioned.

The Liverpool ECHO was informed last week that the Reds were monitoring Portugal international Conceicao, though checks with several sources at Anfield have played down interest in the 23-year-old.

Liverpool enjoys a strong relationship with RB Leipzig, having collaborated on several deals in recent years. However, discussions regarding $130million-plus for 19-year-old Diomande would surely need to be scaled back for any agreement to materialize.

Olise is considered off the table at present. The 24-year-old's profile has soared since his switch from Crystal Palace to Bayern, though a potential move for the France international could hit club-record territory for Liverpool.

Bayern have no plans to entertain bids for Olise at this juncture either. Within the walls of Anfield, there is a firm conviction that the club is intent on fielding Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak together on a more regular basis.

The three summer recruits have shared the same pitch for just 88 minutes this season, suggesting that Salah's successor may already be within the squad, with Liverpool's hierarchy determined to unlock the full potential of the trio next campaign.
