Liverpool allowed Jarell Quansah to leave the club last summer, selling him to Bayer Leverkusen, but the deal reportedly included a buy-back clause - which the club is rumored to be looking at

Liverpool could be lining up a move to re-sign center-back Jarell Quansah in 2027.

Quansah broke through at Liverpool a couple of years ago while Jurgen Klopp was still the manager, but he saw his game time reduce dramatically following the arrival of Arne Slot in 2024. Liverpool sanctioned Quansah's exit last summer, as he joined Bayer Leverkusen in a £35 million ($48 million) deal.

The Reds have apparently been impressed by Quansah's performances for Leverkusen, and are considering triggering a buy-back clause that was inserted in the deal that took him to Germany. The clause can only be triggered from the 2027 summer transfer window, meaning that Leverkusen does not risk losing him just a season after his move.

Football Insider says that Quansah's return to Anfield can be sealed with a pre-agreed fee, while it is claimed that the contract and paperwork are already in place for the deal to go through.

Re-signing Quansah would see Liverpool take another step towards bringing some long-term stability to an area of the pitch that has not had much of that recently.

Ibrahima Konate is out of contract at the end of this season, while Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are set to become free agents in 2027.

Giovanni Leoni is the only other center-back in the Liverpool squad, but he is unlikely to play again this season after suffering a serious knee injury in September.

Quansah only recently turned 23, while Leoni is still just 19, and impending summer signing Jeremy Jacquet is just 20 years old, which shows that Liverpool's recruitment team is clearly taking steps to set the center of the team's defense up for years to come.

Jacquet will join Liverpool at the end of the season after the Reds struck a £60 million ($82 million) agreement with French outfit Rennes to sign the youngster.

The deal, which is subject to a work permit and international clearance, will see Jacquet sign a contract until 2031, with the option of a further year.

Worryingly for Liverpool, though, Jacquet was forced off from Rennes' Ligue 1 game against Lens on Saturday night due to a shoulder injury.

Rennes manager Habib Beye said after the game that the injury is "quite serious", posing questions over how long Jacquet could be sidelined for.
